We all experience stress from time to time. Some people go for a walk, some meditate and some like to go to they gym.
There are many things you can do to help with stress but today I’m going to be going over the benefits that massage has for your stress levels.
So lets get started!
1. Lowers Blood Pressure
Now according to research done by The American Heart Association, stress is not directly linked to high blood pressure. However, The American Heart Association curtain behaviors due to stress such as poor eating habits, inactivity, smoking, a high-sodium diet and high alcohol intake can all elevate your blood pressure.
Fun Fact:
“According to a Sept. 4, 2008, Newsweek article titled “Five Surprising Benefits of Massage,” massage activates pressure points linked to the vagus nerve. The vagus nerve regulates blood pressure–stimulation helps lower and maintain a healthy blood pressure level.”
Interesting right?
2.Reduces Muscle Tension
I think this one is pretty much a given. Most people carry stress in their shoulders and massage breaks up lactic acid and other points of discomfort that are symptomatic of stress.
Massage Therapy also releases endorphins (pain-killing hormones), which boost the dopamine and serotonin levels in the body. These hormones assist the body in many ways–physically as well as emotionally. Case in point, they promote healing, pain management, and feelings of euphoria, as well as help to calm the nerves.
3.Quit time
Massage Therapy is a great way for immediate stress relief. If you are busy with work or you are feeling overwhelmed, taking the time to go get a massage is going to benefit you greatly!
If you’re like me, I don’t have an off switch, I’m always doing something, I don’t take days off and even if I do take a day off (which is rare) it’s not to sit at home and watch TV. So getting a massage is heaven to me for more reasons then one. When in my massage appointment it gives me that quit time where I don’t worry about the calls I have to make or all the things I need to done. It gets me in a state of complete calm and relaxation. Once I’m done with my appointment I feel refreshed and ready to take on the world again.
One busy person who you may know, Mariah Carey has a massage therapist that travels with her when she goes on tour. Which is not uncommon for celebrities and high paid speakers.
One 90 minute massage is the equivalent of 8 hours of REM sleep. So you can understand why many of these people with their busy schedules would take advantage of this.
